This is a rather minor site update, mostly focusing on usability changes rather than performance changes.  Change-log Follows:

  • All of the weekly update posts - readings, who's serving, ect. - have been moved to a new category called "Weekly Updates"
  • The pop-out menu for calendar events has been widened to remove having to scroll on larger monitors.
  • The calendar has been updated with all the events from the normal calendar (Thanks Elizabeth).
  • Implementations for the web-dev blog have been added; I finally have time this summer to post on that!
  • Video integration is in the works to post the latest choir videos on the site.
  • The welcome banner now displays 100% of the time.
  • Support for Internet explorer 6 and below has been dropped completely.  Please update your browser to the newest version of IE, or switch to a safer and faster browser such as Opera.
For some odd reason our podcast has decided it doesn't want to update.  All the files are there, but it appears this has been happening for a couple of weeks now.  We will look into why the RSS feed used for the podacst is "stuck" per say, and have it fixed most likely this Sunday or Monday.

As we have just completed a minor site update, here is the change log:

  •  The author of articles except for sermons has been removed.  It was deemed an unnecessary addition.
  •  Comments now work again on the feedback page (thanks for the heads-up David).
  • A "Choir" section has been added to the "Worship" tab.
  • The login module has been slightly updated to be more informative.
  • Preparations have been made for the new Staff Collaboration Area and the Webmaster's Corner (Check back soon for more details).
  • General improvements have been made for greater compatibility with Internet Explorer.
  • The HTML5 coding of the site has been slightly updated to be fully compatibility with the latest rendering engines.

Although I (the webmaster) cannot see the results that people post on the survey, I have gotten wind of at least one person putting up fake results "for fun."  If you are one of these people please understand that this survey is not a joke and your actions can potentially affect this site in a negative way.  Therefore I ask that there be no further fake results and comments on the survey.  Thank you.

The survey is still available to be taken and we urge everyone to kindly fill it out.  Thus far only a few people have filled it out, which is not enough to make changes.  Even if you like the site in its every essence, please take the time to fill out the survey anyway, as the positive feedback helps us just as much as the suggestions do.

Once again the link to the survey is as follows: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/BRVGFZ7

We recently redesigned the site and we're hoping you're liking all the new things that are happening around here.  To help us better understand how to make the site even more inviting and easier to use we are conducting a survey to analyze how to make the site better.  We ask that you please complete this survey as it will help greatly.  Thank you.

After the theme change and general site update there have been a few slight problems.  The podcast component was not found, and there were graphical problems with the Sermons page.  In this minor update we have fixed the podcasts, provided general speed improvements, and are working to find the article that is creating the graphical errors in the sermons section.

UPDATE:  It appears the sermon "wonder" was causing the problems.  We will investigate this further, but for now a temporary solution is in place as the "wonder" sermon has been removed.

After a very long time of creating the new theme, I am proud to say that after two days it is fully in place and functioning.

There are a ton of new and improved features that I have included in this update.  In this article I'll list the most noteable changes and additions, and then later there will be a readme with all of the changes.  If you don't understand what something is, you can comment and ask, or not worry about it.

Noteable Changes:

  •  The site template has been recoded in HTML 5 and CSS4 to support the maximum number of web browsers.  However, this ends support for IE 6 if you still have it.  This change also fixes the issue where glitches in the site would appear when full site zooming was enabled in the browser.
  • The overall look of the site has been redone to make it more sleek and new-agey looking.  It is also somewhate easier to use this way.
  • The information bar on the left has been moved to the right.
  • Behind the site there is a new background image.
  • The date, login, zoom, and search have been removed from the very top of the site.  Search and zoom are now located under the menu (under the showcase for the home page), and login is located near the bottom of the right menu.  Login was moved as it is only necessary to use with staff members.
  • The site now uses the gantry framework for positioning items.  This should speed up loading times on slower internet connections as well as make the site easier to code for.
  • The top menu has been completely redone to be more sleek looking.  The framework behind it has also been changed from the original moomenu to Fushion Menu.  This should speed up the site on slow computers.
  • The text size increaser now has two levels of increasment so people with bad vision may see the site easier without using their browser's zoom feature.
  • Article titles now have a green border around them to clarify the order of articles on the site.
  • The logo was redone as some people were unsure of what the original logo meant.
  • The showcase area of the homepage has been redone to have only one item at a time.  A background picture was also added to it, the color was changed to green, and a gradient opacity was added to the church image.
  • The whole site has been recoded to work 100% with javascript.  This is mostly due to the new top menu that supports javascript.
  • The buttons for printing, emailing, menu items, ect.  have been redone to give a more sleek look.
  • The frontpage can now support multiple pages of articles.
  • For javascript and other like popups a new lightbox framework has been added.  This also applies to some images and videos that may appear in the future.  Due to this, the login module was completely redone.
  • For our writers, the editor has been completely redone!  It now has great features such as spell check, and it's completely resizeable.  It also has a sleeker look and a bunch of other new features.  It also now has automated help if you need it.

There were so many more changes than this, but there isn't anymroe room.  I hope everyone enjoys the new features of the site, and as always, if there's anything you'd like to say, don't hesitate to leave a comment.

Well it took a little longer than originally expected, but the podcast bug is fixed and all the newest podcasts have been added.  You can either subscribe to them by clicking the subscribe button, or if you don't want to subscribe but still want to listen you can go to the "Worship" section of the site and then click "Podcast".
We are moving to a new theme (yay) for 2010.  Although it's a bit late, I'm sure you like it.  However, please be patient.  The site may look a bit weird on some occasions, but we guarantee that you'll like it even more when we're done.  The shift will be done in about two weeks total.  Unfortunately, we don't have the capacity to keep the site completely the same while it's switching themes, and we would like to apologize in advance for any hardships you may experience because of this.
