Summer Bible School, July 20 - 24, 2008, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

New name but same fabulous format! Vacation Bible School (VBS) is now Summer Bible School (SBS), but don’t worry – we are still planning all the fun and fellowship you have come to expect. This year’s theme is “Get Your Faith in Shape” and focuses on faith and fitness.

This year’s dates are July 20 – 24, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, so mark your calendars now. As usual we will begin with dinner and follow up with songs, Bible stories, science lessons, crafts, and other activities. We have lots of fun things planned to help us explore the wonderful bodies God created for us and learn how we can keep them fit and healthy to do His work and live the abundant lives Jesus promises us. This is a follow-up to our June 7th Family Faith Fellowship, which focused on health and healing.

We hope you will join us as we continue this journey of spiritual healing and fitness. You can call or email us to sign up at (425) 228-5464 / nlcoffice@questoffice.net. See you there!

MAGI outing to the Tacoma Art Museum, July 28, 2008

On Monday, July 28th, the MAGI and friends will will tour the exhibition, “Illuminating the Word: Saint John’s Bible.” at the Tacoma Art Museum.  We will meet at the church at 9 a.m. and carpool to the Museum.

Tickets: Provided we have a group of ten or more:

Seniors (65+) $4.40
Adults: $5.50.

This is a group rate that must be paid with a single payment.  Please sign up with Donna Collet and pay her in advance and she will pay the museum.

Donna saw the exhibit at Saint John’s University in Minnesota in October 2007.  The actual work is being done in Wales where the head calligrapher lives.  The exhibition includes pages from the Saint John’s Bible and the story of the project taken on by the Benedictine community at St John’s Abbey in Collegeville, MN.  Wishing to mark the new millennium in a meaningful way based on the Benedictine tradition, in 1996 they commissioned a handwritten and illuminated Bible. Illuminated means enhancing the handwritten word with artwork by adding colored elements including colored letters, illustrations, or designs to a manuscript or the borders of a page.

This is the first time since the Gutenberg Bible was printed (1452) an illuminated handwritten Bible has been created.  We will see exhibits from three of the seven volumes of the entire project: Gospels and Acts, Pentateuch and Psalms plus many of the ancient techniques and tools used to create this Bible.

Please join us for a fascinating tour.  If you are unable to join the tour you may visit it on your own time.  For
